It is, with a layout override. You can apply eg scale: 2 to any layout element, which will scale it and all its children. To scale the whole ui, do it at the root elements for the layouts in use. (edited)

Guide to Autotracker Setup (Snes9x-rr) Download snes9x-rr from https://www.dropbox.com/s/hh34v0l6qb5b8kh/snes9x-rr-1.57.zip?dl=0. It works like snes9x 1.57, so you can use MSU-1 packs with it now! After unzipping the emulator: - Open Emotracker with a package that supports autotracking. Right click on the robot in the bottom right corner and set it to "Lua," then start the autotracking. (it'll come up yellow, that's ok) - In snes9x-rr, go to File > Lua Scripting > New Lua Script Window. Open the connector.lua script included in the Emotracker install directory (probably something like C:/Program Files (x86)/EmoTracker/Connectors/snes9x/connector.lua). - Run the script. If everything is working correctly, the console will output that the connection was established, and the robot will change to cyan. Leave the Lua console open in the background. - Then it should work. Hopefully. Please note that this is still experimental and in testing, so it is not guaranteed to be stable. since people probably want it

You need to read more carefully. There is a specific download that supports Lua. There are scripts to load. From what you’ve said, you definitely haven’t done any of this.

Just to be totally clear with everybody here... Assuming I'm around and available, I will generally try my best to help people who are paying attention and genuinely trying. Maybe that's pointing you to resouces, answering questions, or maybe it's actually walking you through something. i get the emotracker yesterday and with this discord it simple to see what you have to do but if other need help i believe you will need to put "tuto video" on it i think will be monre simple to just throw the vod when someone need help (cause we see this night some can't read sadly) ... btw emotracker is amesome

With the number of games with unique packs (most of which I don’t create), the number of emulator configurations people are currently using for autotracker (some officially supported, some not)... There is no tutorial video of reasonable length that will satisfy everybody. This discord remains the best solution for now, although I have been looking into options for a community driven wiki.

@Nerah The vast majority of the game packs available for EmoTracker are built and maintained by community members for those games that wanted it to exist. So the answer is, if you are so motivated, then it can exist. My LTTP pack plus #customization-support is the place to start.

Emo, would it help mitigate the issue in the future if you also trusted the Amazon root CA certificate? This way you will know when your certificate is expired but the app will still work until an update

The latest update will exhibit this behavior if you are accessing the internet from behind a caching (or other) proxy server that is serving up an imposter SSL certificate. The consequences are:
1) Packs will all be sorted under "Other" 2) Autotracker will be unavailable
All other functionality should work normally. In future updates, I plan to isolate the issue to autotracker, but that was not feasible to do quickly enough during the outage.

@Mago Merlin i was perusing your map tracker and you only have 3 items labeled for Kokkol, The Smith's house. There is actually 4 items in his house. 2 in pots, one in a bookshelf, and the 4th is a chest to the right through a hidden hall. you have to go right when you use the stairs to go back down to get to it

How long it takes depends heavily on your background. One thing that is true is that, as a general rule, building functional map trackers takes a good bit longer than item only trackers.

I see. Well, ultimately, package availability is determined by individually maintained package repositories associated with each published pack creator. Some repositories host more than one package, across multiple games. The best I could provide is a list of repositories, and even then, I would make zero guarantees about the long-term stability of the endpoint address, returned data format, etc. You'd have to get and process the repository entries yourself. Thanks - I appreciate it! 🙂 Ultimately, the way package distribution works for EmoTracker is to avoid unbounded scaling on my backend, while also giving approved pack developers the ability to maintain control of their releases without me having to 1) be involved very much and 2) without me having to implement a fairly complex service for managing pack versions, etc. So yeah, it defers a bit of complexity to the client, but effectively allows the service to run relatively affordably as the entire versioning scheme is entirely amenable to running statically hosted behind a CDN. Hey, I was just wondering if I was the only one having issues using hamsda OoT map tracker since updating it. It won't show me any dungeons or shops even though I have shop shuffle turned on. If I go into the settings and turn on show all locations, it only shows MQ dungeons and says I don't have the required items even though I do.

There is yes. The easiest way to learn is just downloading a pack, extracting it from its archive and seeing what makes it tick. The packs are stored in Documents\EmoTracker\Packs. Emo's own ALTTPR pack is probably the best example to learn from.

Interesting.. My experience with autotracker was that it respected the clear until a save/quit, then it saw it wasn't checked yet. I'll play around with that some more. As for Maze Race, I've had to miss out on it a couple times due to bombs/rupees-for-bombs, or more importantly, due to entrance randomizer. Also, thanks for the tracker and all the hard work that went into it!!

Yea, the tracker is always going to assume you have bombs (likewise, the game's logic doesn't consider bombs when placing items). However it makes sense to want to pin an item there for entrance rando. You could suggest to the creator of the ER pack (I forget who it is) that change, and you can also make an override to the appropriate .json file (probably called items.json) to change it to one.

Is there a way to easily view the version of a tracker package? The Package Updater nor the Title Bar seem to indicate a version number. Since updating a package tends to make it incompatible with existing Saves for that package, being able to know what version of a package someone is using can be useful from a Support's perspective since they could identify issues that were fixed in later updates and tell a person asking for help what they've likely missed in their playthrough (point out incongruencies between what their version of the package says and what the latest version of the package says). When I say Support, I mean support in the various Randomizer/game discord servers, not necessarily here on the Emotracker discord. (edited)

Is it not possible to prevent the Auto Tracker from undoing a manual change to a location (create a exception for a Location)? I like using the Auto Tracker but it won't let me mark off visible items that I don't want to collect... because when I say I've gotten the item, the Auto Tracker will resynchronize the location and unmark it as collected. Items on torches, ledges, islands, bookshelves and items that have had their location revealed via Hints... you can't tell the Auto Tracker to ignore any of them and let you manually set their state. I think there is a general usability problem in a lot of packs, with options and settings being a single icon with no explanatory text whatsoever. Maybe the new button_popup could help by providing a quick reference/how-to/"tutorial" only one click away.

That’s one option I’m considering. I’m also considering just having a standard pack manifest field that is a url for a webpage to direct people to in their browser. Markdown is nice, but is always likely to be framed in a more limited way in the tracker than what you can opt to do on a webpage (which could just be eg a github markdown page) (edited)

Window capture works fine. You can also use NDI to capture the tracker's broadcast view, which is a view specifically set up for capturing on stream. Press F2 to open (as described in #faq).

NDI is an IP video standard. The main benefit is allowing you to capture the tracker broadcast view with a naturally transparent background (no color key).

Hey, so I was told a pokemon crystal key item randomizer tracker was being developed. I have done a lot of work testing the randomizer and am a bit more familiar with the logic since the dev notes are not quite up to date. Who can I talk to help with it? I'm doing a showcase race on Feb 1 and it would be nice if we could get a tracker working to display the items/locations. It would also be helpful to potentially get more people to try out the crystal key item rando. (edited)

You could use an old version of Ham's pack, but I'd really recommend you update to 5.1 - there's a reason no one uses 5.0 anymore, it was faulty.

There is not currently a relocatable download/install for EmoTracker, although copying the install directory around should world. Installed packs and settings always go in your documents folder, however.

For the platforms it currently supports, EmoTracker uses a live connection to an emulator or flash cart to directly monitor the contents of RAM, which is why it doesn’t require saving the game to update the tracker and/or e.g. special emulator-only rom patching to work effectively

LUA is complicated - A lot of engines support only specific versions of the standard, and then might also not include all basic libraries/capabilities. This, in addition to the fact that the emulator has to expose all the necessary emulator-specific functions (which are probably all differently named from emulator to emulator) means that you will have to rewrite the connection layer for every emulator.

In addition, ET talks remotely with the emulator, so the emulator can use any language it wants to communicate with ET as long as it fulfills the communication protocol - it's not limited to LUA on the connector side.

Nice! I agree with Natalie's nitpick and I think MuffinJets has a good solution, but that might continue to cause inconsistent space between the paintings. Are the paintings objects in each row as well? Maybe you can make those bigger? Another option could be to just fix the sprite size for all of the stars in each level (don't have to resize images individually in this case)

Hi! I just blew off an hour trying to make EmoTracker run on Linux Mint 19.3, both in 64 and 32 bits prefixes, and I give up for now. I managed to install dotnet 4.7.2, but the error I couldn't get past was wine not finding mscoree.dll when trying to run emotracker. Yes 5/6 crystals are red in rando, IP and MM in vanilla. You need both of those crystals marked and collected for Pyramid Fairy to be available. (edited)

The autotracker does not mark the pendant/crystal dungeons automatically, you need to do that when you check the map.

I could do that, but as the default state for things in standard is all crystals to minimize total clicks after checking the map, it would cause weird false positives for people who delay checking the map or forget to mark. False negatives that are fixable with knowledge are generally better than false positives IMO.

@ritz N64 autotracking as a concept exists, there are item trackers that can be found online However, those don't track locations, they are only the item grid. With that in mind, it seems like N64 autotracking through EmoTracker might be possible. I definitely suggest looking into it and seeing what you can put together, I for one would be incredibly interested in it. However, you may want to be careful where you ask for help, as the OoTR Discord is vehemently against autotracking. They have a focus on racers, which autotracking is generally disallowed for, so they don't even allow for talking about it conceptually

There's some debate on the smz3 discord as to whether IP should be orange when you don't have somaria, but have everything else for the dungeon. Somaria lock only locks the key and prize from Khold, so you can get all three items, but you technically can't access all locations, which would cause any other dungeon the be orange. Wondering what the people here think.

The orange color gives off a “danger” vibe, so people sometimes don’t go there because of that. As an example, I used the accessibility colors to change the orange to a darker green to indicate that while it’s not all checks, there are some checks.

It's similar to Escape being yellow until you have lamp AND glove. Depending on key layout, you might be expected to full clear with just lamp, but since the standard map tracker doesn't do keys, it can't guarantee full clear until you have both. You might be able to full clear IP without somaria, but it's not guaranteed until you have it.

The SMZ3 pack does not take somaria into account currently. The Z3 logic in this rando only has one state, there is no basic vs advanced, nor is there keysanity currently.

If the boss has a small key than you may be required to use the Cane of Somaria to reach the boss. If the boss does not have the small key than the Cane of Somaria is an optional, speedier way of reaching the boss. I believe you'd need to track keys for the dungeon to accurately convey the right situation to the player. (edited)

Probably the vanilla Deku Mask location, which is pre-given to you (or optionally randomized, but still given to you nonetheless) in the latest builds of the randomizer All of the current EmoTracker packs for MM are out-of-date as far as I know, aside from an independent build getting passed around.

Made some adjustments to Fouton's SMZ3 pack.
PROS: - Groupings are better distinguished - Clear buffer between ALttP and SM - Each SM line corresponds to a menu group - Better separation of LW and DW dungeons - SM bosses are easier to click CONS: - Takes up more space (about 33% more in each dimesnion, as shown) - Spacing could be evened out better, since I didn't bother to fine-tune it - No MB/Ganon
Fouton did a good job grouping blocks of items in a logical way, but it's hard to read at a glance while playing the game. In this mod, the blocks immediately pop out. Since I just made this for personal use, I made a couple choices just based on preference: I included Bug Net and X-Ray, and left out Mother Brain and Ganon (though there is certainly room for them if I change my mind). What do you guys think?

You can have Windows 10 working for I think it's 120 days without activating it (or you can for older Windows). Should be a long enough trial period to get you through a period of playing randomizers with a tracker (edited)

The pack I'm using is the one that says it's by "Rikkukun, Pink Switch, and Epic Yoshi". I found the following strange behavior happens when I do the following: 1. Launch emo tracker from having it completely closed 2. Application > File > Open > Select my file 3. The file opens without pins as I described above. 4. Application > File > Open > Select the same file I did in step 2 5. The file now opens with the saved pins. Hopefully this repro helps identify the issue. I'm also happy to share the json if that helps.

Development continued after the original author was Cease and Desisted, eventually a Randomizer was added to AM2R and pretty recently they removed the need to beat the game to unlock it. It's up to v1.5 now iirc (assuming no new update has released since) (edited)

Well, Original usb2snes is 'dead'. There is an Appversion command that give you the wserver 'version' so check can be made. And since the port change will already 'break' stuff, it's the moment to add some small improvment x)

Yep. Packs are stored in Documents\EmoTracker\packs and if you drop your zipped up pack in there it will show up in the tracker under "other" after a restart of EmoTracker (edited)

(I'm not using an autotracker... but I think I'm correct by not marking a chest as opened if it contains a small/Big Key or map or compass. Every time I run GT I end up with something like 3-4 extra chests in the dungeon and 3 extra in the tower)

People have investigated it, in particular for a la mulana experiment. For one, randomizers are generally bespoke - there is no standard definition mechanism for logic, and in many cases it exists purely in code. For another, depending on the complexity of the logic, a 1:1 mapping between the two is often either impractical or straight up undesirable for experienced players of the game.

https://github.com/qadan/hollow_knight_randomizer_tracker does this; however, i think it implements this completely different than what you may find useful ... the only reason it does that at all is to prevent having to manually build a logical tree 20 times for 20 different start locations. on the other hand, both TWWR and HKR both use an infixed logical notation to represent accessibility (e.g., A + (B | C)), and i suspect there might be a couple more randomizers out there that use that format, so a general tool that can convert infixed logic to a list of access_rules (e.g., "A,B","A,C") and enumerate any locations or macros used may be a good jumpstart for writing out JSON in the future. that's a big maybe though. and as for building the entire logical tree in emotracker location JSON itself, i really think there'd have to be a compelling reason to do so

I also had my randomizer build a json, but that was primarily to deal with a door shuffler. The number one reason why I'd recommend considering it, though, is just for logic debugging of the randomizer itself. It made debugging and testing far simpler and quicker, and it even helped me find a bug. 🙂 (edited)

Dungeons are not tracked because the LttP Randomizer Racing Council have specifically banned it.
The council has determined that the following items are currently forbidden from auto-tracking: Dungeon Item Counts (How many non-dungeon items you've received in a dungeon, or chest counts in keysanity) Dungeon Prizes (Map-check crystal/pendants) Item Spheres Entrances

Problems with the items not showing locations should be directed to #pack-support and you should tag the pack author. Not every pack has autotracking either, and afaik even then it only tracks items and not locations

Building things like autotrackers for games on more modern platforms like the Wii, where dynamic allocations on a heap are common, is substantially more complicated than the generally simple fixed memory layouts of 8 and 16 bit era games. It’s possible, but low priority for me, as it will require substantial additional functionality to be exposed to pack developers in order to make it feasible.

I will say that as far as the future of the autotracking underpinnings of EmoTracker are concerned, I’m considering a few approaches. Allowing for plugins to be developed is definitely an option that’s on the table, but it comes with a fair amount of work to do properly.

Actually, I’ll say one more thing. If I did allow for folks to build plugins, they would be built in C#. Given some of the issues new pack devs bring up, one thing to keep in mind is that adding e.g. new types of autotracking platforms would absolutely require real and substantial programming experience - it’s not something I would expect arbitrary pack creators to be able to do, and this won’t ever be a “learn to program” discord. actually connecting depends on the emulator you're using but for snes9x, you need a special build of 1.60 you can find here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_ej-pwWtCAHYXIrvs5Hro16A1s9Hi3Jz then you can click file > lua scripting > new lua script window, and then load connector.lua in connectors > snes9x in your emotracker installation. then right click the robot, click Lua under SNES, and then press start

also as an afterword the tracker might lag behind / not track at times, stopping and starting it with the robot should fix that (or the restart button on the snes9x lua window, though i've had less luck with that) if you are indeed using this for alttp i'd stop and start it at least once before a run just to be safe (edited)

Sadly only 2 1440p monitors here. I have 4, 2 1080s and 2 1440s but my 1440s are used so I hafta keep your tracker on a 1080. Tho maybe I should see how it looks on my portrait monitor compared to my normal one. Might look nicer there.

It is a requirement AT LEAST for the first minute or so while the app starts up. It is related to anti-cheating measures. There are currently no plans to change that.

yeah, when it runs fullscreen it looks great and lines up with stream, but there doesnt seem to be windowed fullscreen. and the windowed mode doesnt support a ratio that fills up a nice amount of my screen

Hi there, I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I use EmoTracker when I am playing, well I have 2 kids and keeping track is quite hard when i keep having to stop and start lol, is there a way to tick off areas i have visited? When it brings up the chests, click on the chests that correspond to what youve checked. Green squares mean you can get everything in the square, orange is not everything, red is nothing, blue you can see what it is, and yellow it can be gotten with sequence breaks

Hey guys. Just discovered EmoTracker and wanted to give it a go. I want to slowly ease into this whole community of A Link to the Past by replaying the original game first and getting used to everything. I was trying to figure out how to use this with the original game but all my searches keep bringing me to how to use this with Randomizer or Multiworld or some other variant that I am not familiar with. Any advice for me to get this started on a Vanilla game of ALTTP? Thank you.

There's no difference in how you use it between vanilla and rando. It's just that in vanilla, you should already know where everything is, making a tracker somewhat pointless. (edited)

Ah ok. Thanks @TarThoron . I did find the download packages in the app and was told I had to start here first. I just saw a lot of different ones to download and wasn't sure which one to use. Someone recommended to me to download CodeTracker Full Tracker one. But I thought I should download the EmoTracker Official ALTTP Support one. Is there any real difference between the different packages?

There's usually a pretty big difference in features, rather than the core tracking app. I'm not super familiar with CodeTracker, but I believe it has far more support for specialized modes, like entrance randomizer or crosskeys.

So I toyed around with emotracker a bit and I noticed that the boomerang wouldn't sync. I tried both the official package and Codetracker and neither one would sync the boomerang. I could manually check it but then a short while later it would be gone again. Not sure if this is an issue or if it's something in my set up but I thought I would mention it. But I am going to bed now so I'll read your replies to this tomorrow. Thank you.

Emosaru, are you aware that following these steps for Snes9x seemingly results in Multiworld & Auto-tracking working together, with only one LUA script loaded? * QUSB2SNES is configured with SD2SNES and LUA devices enabled. * Snes9x is loaded, game is loaded and the QUSB2SNES Connector.lua script is loaded. * Open Emotracker and the relevant tracking package (Super Metroid/A Link to the Past Crossover Snes9x package). * Tell Emotracker to use SD2SNES. * Click the Connect button on the website/game server. Auto-Tracking works and the website/game server reports successful connectivity. Presumably this means that the QUSB2SNES software is interlinking the LUA side of things with the SD2SNES side of things. Potentially this means the LUA option in Emotracker isn't needed (if the SD2SNES instructions are cross-compatible with LUA instructions). Stunseed on the Archipelago discord has been playing games with this configuration for a fair while without issue. (edited)

It's down to what the packs expect when implementing autotracker. As they're absolutely built for randomizer, we focus on the randomizer ROM. That's really all there is to it. AFAIK, there are no autotracking packages that work as expected with the vanilla rom, and there's next to zero reason to invest in it. 🤷‍♀️

Codemann's pack has a Vanilla/Romhack tracking variant, but iirc it doesn't have maps. For just playing the vanilla game you're probably better off just marking things manually

Thank you both for your replies. From what I can tell so far, emotracker is working for just about everything else. Right now it's just the Boomerrang that isn't tracking (but I'm sure there are other items too). But I was mainly trying to use it as an easy way to keep track of what I have left to get and where to get it. For that, it seems to be working well.

So I'm playing through the escape sequence right now in Vanilla ALTTP and I am getting a green square in that area behind the 2 bombable walls that has the 3 chests in it. Right now I do not have bombs or pegasus boots which is what I believe I need in order to get in there. I'm sure this is just another instance of it being this way because I am not using Randomizer. But just making sure there isn't another way to get in there this early into the game. Thanks.

I know. I wasn't trying to learn the game. Just trying to learn and understand why the tracker was doing what it was doing in a vanilla version of the game (which I now do). Yes. She’s got the source code and it’s closed-source for the application of EmoTracker itself. Many fans have made the packs that you see available in the Package Manager and have a partnership with EmoSaru to have them listed. I’m producing a pack that is not yet available from the Package Manager.

So I've been going deeper down the rabbit hole and discovered a version of randomizer called archipelago. On their website, it says the recommended tracker to use is one called OpenTracker and give a link to its github page. Does EmoTracker support this variant through another package download or will I have to use OpenTracker when I start messing around with archipelago? Thanks. (edited)

speaking as a pack developer, i have to agree of course working in a framework like emotracker means we maybe have to take some different routes than if we were to just program a specialized tracker for the game we work on but being able to create packs with basically just json has probably resulted in so many people making trackers for games that might otherwise not exists, because they don't have the programming experience needed to create a standalone thing and with emosaru expanding the tracker and adding new features (if we need them and they make sense :P), almost anything is possible at this point

@Clutz450 Just to be completely clear - the "Archipelago" randomizer branch is not something that will ever be specifically supported here as long as I have anything to say about it. While it's great that things work to whatever extent they do, I will say that - for a variety of reasons - I strongly recommend that you focus on the actual official version of the randomizer. The "creator" of Archipelago is somebody who took an actively hostile stance towards the LTTPR randomizer devs, and is actually banned from that community for a variety of reasons. People are free to play what they want, but I have zero interest (and in fact have negative interest) in supporting their variant. (edited)

I've just been very excited since discovering this whole community as I loved playing ALttP as a kid and these new ways of playing (especially being able to play online with friends) has made me want to try to learn more about it and see what else is out there. I won’t support it in my package. Existing packages that support it are obviously not something I intend to shut down, or I already would have done so. If somebody developed a package specifically to support that version and wanted distribution in-app, I would likely not approve that package for distribution. (edited)

I was checking the FAQ about the square colors for LTTP. I never noticed a gray color. I noticed that if you right click it, the squares disappear entirely which I assume is the new gray. Also if I do that, but I didn't clear everything, how do I bring the square back?

Right now as far as I know sprinting is done and coding is next on the docket. I have been loving pack dev, so earthbound (mother 2 ) is on my to do list, and golden sun rando is already done.

Because total's rando was originally designed for speedrunners, not casuals. Because the vanilla game literally demonstrates IBJ in the attract mode after you've beaten it once. Because pushing a button once per second is not that hard.

It's not something the game will expect you to do in a casual playthrough to beat the game, and SMZ3 has evolved way past it's own crowd Pushing a button once per second can be that hard for some people

The exact reason is that the game tells you how to do this, either in the instruction manual or in the demo reel that plays at the beginning (the latter in the case of IBJ). Because the game shows you and teaches you it is possible, it is expected.

If you're playing casually than luckily there's only like 2 places that absolutely demand a infinite bomb jump instead of a wall jump/bump in to enemy. You may need to slow the game down for some wall jumps as they seem to be pixel perfect or close to it. (edited)

For personal use, sure. I doubt that would get distributed. If you don't specify logic for a location, it will just always be green until you click it.

The map is just an image file (preferably .png) and you have to plot the coordinates of each location yourself in the pack’s code.

IIRC, the coordinates indicate the center of each location square.

EmoTracker does not assist in plotting locations. You must do that manually with JSON database files.

I tried looking about but I didn’t see anything immediately that I could link to. Crack open Emo’s base pack and check out how it’s organized. Install it via the ⚙️ menu, it should install to \Documents\EmoTracker\packs. Extract it to a folder on your desktop and poke around in it. (Extracting it in-place will create unintended results.) Me trying to find something that can determine the coordinates of an image's pixel. Not having any luck. Would be beneficial in placing the squares for the checks.

Most graphics programs can display cursor coordinates. Or at least will have toolbars that can be in pixels.
